What we are

Citizen Zoo will be a different type zoo. We will be a ‘network zoo’, a collective group of people who care for, rear or breed native threatened species at home, whilst working with other conservation organisations to locate and help restore suitable habitat for their reintroduction to the wild.

We will not exist in a fixed location, or keep animals and plants primarily for education and public display.  With the support of local citizens we will exits in people’s homes, teaching the wider public about the wonders of the natural world and how to protect it.

Some of our early members, or ‘Citizen Keepers’ are professional zoo keepers, or amateur hobbyists, whilst some of us are people from other sectors. We have all committed the time and space needed, along with our passion for wildlife conservation to test this approach as best as possible.
